How is the Teacher Support Team Program different?

The Teacher Support Team Program is different from the traditional and parallel systems of general education and special education found in schools today.

Teacher Support Team
Traditional Parallel Systems
School Structure Responsible for every student, replacing the two separate systems Students are sorted into two groups and then each system is responsible for its students
Screening Comprehensive school -wide screening and assessment: gross, fine, auditory, ocular motor skills, and academic skills Kindergarten screening selects students who are ready, sends those who are not home or to other programs
Diagnosis Done by a cadre of people with a variety of clinical training Done by a school psychologist and teacher consultant
Instruction Specific, daily interventions are prescribed and delivered in ten week segments Instruction is "one approach fits all" or tailored to the students' learning style
IEPs identify instructional goals annually and instructional planning is done by the teacher
Follow-up Students receiving interventions are monitored continuously and reassessed every 10 weeks
Refined, detailed instructional plans are developed every 10 weeks
Special education students are reassessed every three years
IEPs are developed once each year.
